IRON MAN: SCRAP METAL

Welcome again to TONY STARK'S LIQUOR CABINET: THE BLOG! This time around we are presenting SCRAP METAL, a post of outtakes and extras from IRON MANGOES. Since we had a 10 minute time-limit on the podcast, there was a lot of stuff that got cut out! So, come take a look at a few more Iron Man villains, costumes and whatever else we can think up!

The top 3 alternate Iron Man suits was originally going to be the Top 5, so here are a few more that us here at Tony Stark's Liquor Cabinet really dig!

IRON PUNISHER

From What If? No. 29
What if Red Skull controlled the USA? In this issue, Frank Castle is a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and wears an Iron Man suit modified to bear his skull insignia. Castle becomes a founding member of The Avengers and takes on Red Skull.

IRON SORCERER SUPREME

From What If? Vol 2 No. 113
Tony Stark drunkenly and severely damages Stephen Strange's hands, preventing Strange from becoming the Sorcerer Supreme. In his lead, though, Stark goes through the motions of Strange's origin story. Along with his intellect and sorcery, he creates a mystical armour to battle Dormammu. This version of Stark is from Earth-9810.

If you're thirsting for more cool Iron Man alternate suits, then I highly suggest picking up Iron Man by Design! This collection contains all the different variant covers Marvel produced promoting the release of Iron Man 2. The Iron Men are all imagined in different eras, art styles, times, etc. and provides some really interesting ideas and artwork! Here are a few of my particular favorite covers!

This is Automotive Era Iron Man, where he is re-imagined and influenced by the automobiles from the Big 3 (GM, Ford, Chrysler) during the 1950's.

Another particular favorite of mine, PINBALL IRON MAN!

A villain that I wanted to mention in the podcast was DR. DOOM.

But, since he is originally a Fantastic Four villain, I wanted to showcase original Iron Man villains instead. Not to say that Iron Man did not go steel-toe-to-toe with the Metal Maniac. In fact, the two tangled in a pretty intense story-arc, travelling BACK IN TIME to Medieval Camelot!

Titled "DOOMQUEST", it was a two-issue Iron Man story-arc, it pitted the two as equals on many levels: intelligence, wealth and HEAVY METAL! The metalheads are thrown back in time to Camelot by a rogue crony. Iron Man co-exists with King Arthur while Dr Doom mingles with Morgan Le Fay. Eventually, Both Stark and Doom realize that the only way back home is to call a truce and use what they have available to create a rudimentary time-machine to return them to their present.

That's about for the SCRAP METAL left over from Iron Mangoes. Stay tuned as we cross the fence over to DC Comics and their superhero, The Flash!
